Buxtehude Cantata English-Language Premier,
“Rejoice All You People”
The First Sunday in Advent marks the beginning of the church year and the festive Christmas season.  For centuries, the Lutheran liturgy included the reading of Jesus’ entrance into the city of Jerusalem.  The Sunday was the annual celebration of Christ entering into the human story of salvation anew. Many of the historic Lutheran  composer of the 17th and 18th century composed special music for the day. Throughout the verses they described the arrival of a gracious prince of peace who was to be greeted with palms swaying and sweet hosannas.  This Advent, the choir turns again to the German- Danish composer Dieterich Buxtehude.
On Sunday, November 29th, the LOTI choir along with a host of guest musicians will perform the English language premier of Buxtehude’s Cantata 29 “Rejoice All You People.” Please invite your friends and neighbors to hear this unique cantata featuring trumpets, timpani and strings. It will serve as a wonderful beginning to the Advent season.
