On Sunday, December 15th at 12:00 p.m., Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church will host “Christmas Smorgasbord” at the Lake.”  Swedish born and trained chef Anna-Lena Sköld will offer an authentic Swedish smorgasbord with a variety of traditional foods as well as a featured main course and dessert.  Before emigrating from Sweden in 1995, Chef Sköld studied at the culinary school in Göteborg and worked in numerous restaurants in the ski resorts of northern Sweden.  She also opened her own restaurant on the island of Öland in the Baltic Sea.

The $30 all inclusive reservation includes the following menu on December 15.  The cost for children between the ages of 5 to 12 is $15 and children 5 and under are free.

Glogg and Ginger Cookies

Aquavit Herring, Tarragon and Mustard Herring, Matjes Herring “Posse style,”

Sillsallad – Herring and Beet Salad, Eggs topped with creamed caviar, two kinds of Swedish Cheese, boiled potatoes, gravlax – marinated Salmon – served with sweet dill mustard sauce, julkryddad lax – baked “Christmas salmon” flavored with mustard, ginger and cloves.

Julskinka – Swedish Christmas ham – apple sauce and mustard, kalvsylta – jellied veal, picked beets, cold sliced roast beef, gherkins, homemade beet and apple salad, Swedish pickled cucumbers, blue cheese, brie and a variety of olives.

Jansson’s Temptation, Dopp i Grytan – Dip in the Pot – and home baked Vort Limpa, meatballs and lingonberries, red cabbage, prinskorv – Swedish wieners, Swedish potato sausages.

Dessert Table

Rice pudding served with lingonberries, ginger cookies, fresh fruit platter, Ris a la Malta – glorified rice – served with Saftsas – a sweet fruit sauce, Ischoklad – Swedish Christmas candy, flourless chocolate torte served with whipped cream.
