This morning Pastor Haug continues his summer sermon series. Over the last three Sundays, we have heard the story of the Apostle Paul’s mission work in Greece beginning with the baptism of Lydia who heard Paul preach on the river bank. Paul’s activity in Philippi led to his arrest and imprisonment, as well as a dramatic earthquake. Paul and Silas could have escaped, but they stayed in the darkness of their cell until the following morning. The Roman magistrate wanted Paul to leave the city quietly, but he refused. He had done nothing that merited beating and imprisonment. Paul would leave on his terms, but he would not leave Philippi without offering a last word of encouragement to Lydia.
