Confirmation
Confirmation education has a long, historic tradition within the Lutheran Church. In Scandinavia and Germany, the rite of Confirmation signaled the completion of public education and entry into adult life. This coincided with 8th grade compulsory education. The curriculum then consisted simply of a memorization of Martin Luther’s Small Catechism.
Today, confirmation education serves as period of growth in the Christian faith. In addition to a broad overview of the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism, confirmation students study the nature of the promises their parents and godparents made when they were first baptized.
The two-year confirmation program begins in the fall of the 7th grade. Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church uses the Augsburg-Fortress “Here We Stand” curriculum. In addition to the pastor, the Wednesday evening classes include small group leaders and mentors.
The confirmation program also includes volunteer service and attendance in worship.
Participation in Worship
Each year the confirmation students will turn in 10 worship notes. These forms, which are located outside the sanctuary, help the student to follow the order of the service, to listen to the sermon, and to learn the liturgical changes of the church year.
Service Opportunities for Youth
Sunday School Volunteer
9 through 12 Grade Youth are invited to assist in the Sunday School program. The children in Sunday School enjoy having high school students as their teachers. The Youth serve as wonderful models for the younger children. Opportunities are to teach or assist a Sunday School class. Contact Diane LaMere
Youth Council Member
One member of the Lake of the Isles youth is elected to serve on the Church Council for a two-year term. The youth representative is nominated and elected at the congregation’s annual meeting in January. The Youth Member serves as full voting members of the Church Council.
Summer Camp at Luther Park
Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church has long been an associate congregation of Luther Park Camping and Retreat Center in Danbury, WI. Luther Park provides traditional church camp for our Youth, as well as intergenerational camping opportunities. LutherPark.com.
