This morning Pastor Haug continues his summer sermon series on the Apostle Paul in Greece. Two Sundays ago we read the story of Paul and Silas fleeing the violent crowds in Thessalonica who were jealous and angry at his success in proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. By contrast, the synagogue in Berea eagerly welcomed the apostle and accepted the message of hope. Unfortunately, the news of Paul’s work in Berea stirred the crowds in Thessalonica and they sent the ruffians to the neighboring town. It is a stark contrast in how two Jewish communities reacted to the knowledge and acceptance of Jesus Christ. From Berea, the noble believers guided Paul to Athens.
So our story begins today…
