The program will highlight mental illness and the many artists who have dealt with and contributed to the world in spite of their internal struggles. The featured work on the concert will be a performance of Angels Sang To Me, a piece for soprano and string quartet by Twin Cities composer, AJ Isaacson- Zvidzwa. Maria Jette will be the guest soprano on the program. Ms. Jette and members of the Isles Ensemble premiered the piece two years ago and have performed it many times since then, including a featured program on TPT last year.
The rest of the program will include two songs for viola, piano, and soprano by Johannes Brahms, and the concert will conclude with Robert Schumann’s Quartet in E-flat for piano and strings. Schumann is one of the artists AJ Isaacson-Zvidswa references in her work earlier on the program. In fact, the title, Angels Sang To Me, is a Schumann quote.
The Isles Ensemble, now in its nineteenth year, is comprised of eleven musicians including current or former players of the Minnesota Orchestra, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, leading freelance players in the Twin Cities, and faculty members of the University of Minnesota and other local colleges.
Admission is $25 for individual tickets, or pay what you can. Children, students, & LOTI members are admitted free of charge. Tickets may be purchased at the door, or online at Eventbrite.
